Utfordringer i akupunkturforskning

Ifølge Verdens helseorganisasjon (WHO) benyttes akupunktur i minst 103 land, hvorav 29 land har inkludert akupunktur i noen av sine kliniske retningslinjer.

Akupunktur er en kompleks behandling/intervensjon og gir unike muligheter for persontilpasset behandling, men skaper dermed også betydelige utfordringer for forskning. Mange randomiserte kontrollerte akupunkturstudier har brukt minimal, overfladisk, sham eller 'placebo' akupunktur som kontrollbehandlinger, men som viser seg å ikke være en uvirksom behandling og har konsekvenser for resultatene og tolkning av de.
