This course will provide the students with knowledge and skills on strategic adoption and use of social media for business purposes.

Students will gain knowledge in social media concepts and theories, technologies, and ethical issues. They will also acquire practical skills in design, implementation and evaluation of a social media strategy in an organization.

  • is able design, plan and implement a minor social media project, for example developing a strategy for a specific purpose, product innovation, small marketing campaign or analysis, a HRM search or a knowledge experiment

The course is structured in block mode for four weeks. The first week will focus on theoretical, strategic and ethical issues, while the second week will focus on developing practical skills with social media technologies. The two last weeks are used for the individual assignment.

Coursework requirements: Consist of one or more assignments/activities that collectively must be approved 

Qualified: G/IG (approved/not approved) 

Support materials: All support materials are allowed 

The coursework must be approved in order to take any examination in the course.


Exam type: Individual written home examination*

Duration: 2 weeks

Grading scale: Norwegian grading system using the graded scale A - F where A is the best grade, E is the lowest pass grade and F is fail 

Weighting: 100 % of the overall grade 

Support materials: All support materials are allowed


*Resit examination: Individual written home examination with a new assignment and a duration of 2 weeks.
