The overall learning outcomes describe the knowledge, skills, and general competence the student is expected to have achieved upon completion of the programme. The learning outcomes are organised into the categories knowledge, skills, and general competence. Each course within the programme has its own learning outcomes that contribute to the achievement of the overall programme outcomes.

Knowledge

The candidate:

has broad knowledge of health-promoting, preventive, and therapeutic interventions for individuals with musculoskeletal conditions
has broad knowledge of human development from foetal life to old age, including common diseases and musculoskeletal conditions across the lifespan
has broad knowledge of pain and how physical, psychological, social, and work-related factors influence pain experience and progression, and how these can be assessed
has knowledge of different business structures, the establishment of a practice, and financial models relevant to running a clinic
has knowledge of evidence-based practice, including how research-based knowledge, clinical experience, and patient preferences are integrated to support clinical decision-making and improve quality of care

Skills

The candidate:

can practise evidence-based care by searching for, critically appraising, and applying relevant research and other knowledge sources to inform clinical decisions and prioritisation
can conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with musculoskeletal conditions, and analyse and interpret findings as part of clinical reasoning
can perform differential assessment, make clinical diagnoses, and assess the need for further investigation
can apply relevant health models in the management of complex clinical presentations and refer patients to other healthcare professionals when appropriate
can apply a range of therapeutic interventions and adapt these to the individual patient
can communicate effectively and act professionally in interactions with patients and their relatives
can communicate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including conveying clinical assessments and management plans in a clear and professional manner

General Competence

The candidate:

can apply a patient-centred approach to plan, implement, evaluate, and adjust multimodal treatment strategies for patients with musculoskeletal conditions across age groups
can practise in a value-based and ethically responsible manner, reflect on their own professional practice, and identify and manage ethical challenges
demonstrates professional judgement and responsibility in patient care, with awareness of their professional role, and meets patients with respect, empathy, and a holistic perspective
can communicate relevant professional knowledge to patients, relatives, and other healthcare professionals for therapeutic purposes
can exchange professional perspectives and experiences with other healthcare professionals, participate in interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to the development of good clinical practice
can practise osteopathy independently in a professionally and ethically responsible manner, including documenting, evaluating, and quality-assuring their own practice in accordance with applicable legislation
