Checklist for new students
Here you will find a to-do list for what you need to do as a new student.

The list is divided into things you must do and things we recommend you to do.
If you are having trouble understanding what something on the list means, you can check the frequently asked questions for starting your studies here.
If you find something on the checklist difficult or you need help, contact us at Student Services via My Kristiania. You can also use the contact form "contact the study administration" at Contact us, if you have not yet received a FEIDE user.
Things you must do:
Things you MUST do accordion
- How?
In August, we will continuously send out usernames and passwords via SMS to all new students. You normally receive this within 3 bussiness days after you have signed your contract. You can expect this to happen during week 32.
What is Feide?
FEIDE is the national solution for secure login and data sharing in education and research. You need this to access Kristiania’s systems, including your personal timetable.
Read more about FEIDE and user account. - How?
You do this with the username and password you received via SMS in step 1 of the checklist. We recommend you do this the same day as when you get the SMS with your FEIDE user. Why?
Once you have your FEIDE user, the content on Mitt Kristiania will change and you will find much more information and resources there when you have logged in as a new student. On Mitt Kristiania, you will find everything you need for your study life, including your personal timetable. You should plan to log in here regularly to stay up to date, as important information will be published there throughout the year. We recommend you to bookmark Mitt Kristiania in your browser, so you can quickly find it again.
- How?
Semester registration must be done at the start of each semester, throughout your entire study period. We recommend doing this as soon as possible after you have received your username and password (see step 1 in the checklist).- Semester registration is done in StudentWeb.
- See our guide for correct semester registration
NOTE: You have to complete both the registration for classes and for exams. If you don’t, the semester registration is not valid.
Why?
This is one of the most important things you must do every single semester throughout your studies.
If you do not register for the semester within the deadline, you will not receive your payments from Lånekassen, you cannot take your exams, and you will not have access to any of Kristiania's systems (including your personal timetable).
If you do not complete both the registration for classes and for exams, the semester registration is not valid.- Deadline for the fall: September 15th
- Deadline for the spring: February 15th
- How?
Log in to the Canvas learning platform and complete the course "Crash Course - Introduction for New Students" (located on the front page after logging in).
The course will be available in early August (as soon as you receive your FEIDE login), and is for all new bachelor's students and students taking a one-year program. In addition, new master's students will have access to the course, as some of the content is also relevant to them. For the best experience of the course, it is recommended to use a PC/Mac.
The course is video-based (English subtitles). You can also find your way to Canvas in the box “useful links for you” on the front page of Mitt Kristiania.
Why do you need to take this online course?
As a new student, there is a lot to take in and it can be difficult to take it all in. A good introduction to student life and academic life can help you a lot at the start of your studies.
This video-based course is tailored to help you make an easier and smoother transition to your new life as a new student at Kristiania. - How?
During August or September, you will receive an invoice from us to the email address you used when you registered your application with us. Your payment deadline is on the invoice.
Why?
If you do not pay the tuition fee and the semester fee by the deadline in the invoice, you will lose your right to studentship.
- How?
See the guide on how to download the app and how to log in here.
Why?
The student ID mobile app is your "receipt" that you are a student. You use this for ticket controls on public transport and to get access to student discounts, among other things. The student certificate is not the same as your student ID-card. - How?
You can get your student ID-card in one of the receptions on campus. If you are starting in Oslo, it is important that you read the information about addresses further down, because you will have to meet at a specific address to get your card at the start of your studies.
Bring valid identification (with photo) and show up at one of the receptions on campus (see addresses below) during the reception's opening hours. You will be take a picture for the student ID-card when you are there.
You can get your student card from week 32 (from Wednesday, August 6th). We recommend you do this by August 10th, to avoid queues. You must have a student card to get in and around campus.
You must have a student ID-card to enter and access the buildings on campus.
Everyone who will participate in the Into Campus buddy week must have a Kristiania wristband to enter the activities. In Oslo, all students are encouraged to collect their writsband at the same time as their student ID-card. You can read more about tickets and wristbands in Oslo here. The Kristiania wristband also makes it easier and faster for you to enter the Welcome Ceremony at Youngstorget.

- Urtegata 9 (entrance from Nordbygata 12)

- Rosenkrantz´ gate 16
See the reception's opening hours
Why?
The student ID-card serves as identification and key card at Kristiania, library card at our libraries, and login to printers for scanning, copying, and printing.
You must always have your student card with you when you are on campus, and preferably wear it visibly. You may be asked to show it by security guards or staff.
The card is personal to you and it is not allowed to lend it out or otherwise transfer it to others.
Do not make holes in the card, as it can be damaged.
- Your personal timetable will be available at the earliest after you have received your FEIDE user and will only appear when you have completed your semester registration in Studentweb (see step 3 in the checklist).
Log in to Mitt Kristiania with FEIDE (see step 1 in the checklist) and see your personal timetable (the small calendar icon at the very top right).
From August 1st, you can see a general timetable for your study program in TimeEdit, but it is not guaranteed that the general times apply to your class. We therefore recommend that you wait until you can log in to Mitt Kristiania with FEIDE (see step 2 in the checklist).
Here you can read about how to use the timetable at Kristiania.
- How?
On this page, you will find a guide on how to log into your student E-mail and how to set up forwarding to the inbox of your private E-mail. There you will also find general information about how your student E-mail works.
Why?
By setting up forwarding to the inbox of your private E-mail, you will more easily be able to keep up with information from Kristiania.
Your student E-mail is where Kristiania will contact you going forward. Here you will receive E-mails with important information about your studies, offers for free courses and events, and other important information that concerns you. Kristiania regulations require you to keep up with your E-mail and it is therefore very important that you stay updated there.
- How?
When you are on campus, you can log into the network called "Student". The password you should use is "Kristiania1914".
To access Kristiania's systems on your home network, you must also download VPN on your PC/Mac. See our guide on how to do this here.
Why do you need VPN?
When you are not at school, you will lose access to certain digital platforms and services, because you are not connected to the school's internet. With VPN, you get this access, without having to be in the school's building.
- How?
By the end of August, you will receive an invitation to respond to the Study Start Survey, to your student E-mail. Note that the survey is only available in Norwegian. You can take the survey on either phone, tablet or pc.
Why?
The Study Start Survey is Kristiania's most important tool to make the start of studies as good as possible for the new students. Your opinion on how you experienced this is very valuable and important for us.
- How?
Read your study contract carefully. You will also find a summary of all regulations and important deadlines on this page.
Kristiania has a local regulation (only available in Norwegian). This is a legal text and is a bit heavy to read, but it is important that you try to familiarize yourself with what is written there. The rules there also apply to you and what you are entitled to.
Why?
You are personally responsible for keeping up with Kristiania's deadlines, rules and regulations. This includes keeping up with the information channels we use (Mitt Kristiania, Canvas, and student E-mail). This means that if you do not take your responsibility, it can have consequences that can affect your course of study.
