Most people show up first day without knowing anyone in their buddy group beforehand. Your buddies will take good care of you and have first-hand knowledge about the school and your program, as they are also students at Kristiania.

How to get a buddy group

  • How to join a buddy group

There are two ways to get a buddy group:

    1. Your study program has buddies, and you will receive a sign-up link via E-mail.
    2. You can join a group with available spots when the buddy week starts.

If your study program has buddies, you will receive an email with a registration form over the summer (after you have signed your student contract).

    • There is a deadline to sign up, and it will be stated in the email you receive with the registration form.

If your program does not have buddies or you missed the deadline: see “How to get a group without signing up.”

  • How to know that you have been assigned a buddy group

Registered participants are assigned to buddy groups the weekend before Into Campus. This means that you can't expect to receive confirmation that you have been placed in a group immediately after signing up. You will not get a group faster by signing up multiple times.

It is normal to be contacted during the weekend before the buddy week. The buddies will do this via email, chats, or SMS.

The group leaders of the different buddy groups are responsible for assigning registered participants to groups.

If you were not signed up for a buddy group, you will need to wait until you are contacted by a buddy from a group with available spots (see “How to get a group without signing up”). This usually happens at the earliest by the end of the weekend before the buddy week, as registered participants are assigned to groups first.

  • What should I do if I don’t get a buddy group?

This applies to students who are in a program that doesn't have buddies, or who missed the deadline to sign up for a buddy group.

To get help finding a buddy group with available spots, you can send an E-mail to the buddy committee at ic.oslo@studentunionen.no. The subject line of the email needs to be “Help finding a group for <name of your study program>”. In the E-mail, you must include:

    1. Your name.
    2. Mobile number (make sure to enter the correct number).
    3. Your study program (even if it's written it in the subject line).

When will you receive a reply?

You can expect to receive a reply at the earliest by the end of the weekend before Into Campus.

If a buddy group has available spots, you will be contacted directly by buddies from that group.

Please note that this depends on whether there are groups with available spots, and these may be groups from a different study program.

  • Haven’t you been contacted about a buddy group?

There may be several reasons for this. These apply both to those who have signed up for buddy groups and those who have sent an E-mail to get help finding a group.

Here are some of the most common reasons:

    • You are expecting a response before the buddy groups have been created, or before the buddy committee has had time to review your E-mail.
    • You have registered an incorrect E-mail address or misspelled.
    • You entered the wrong mobile number when signing up for a buddy group, and we are therefore unable to find you in the student lists.
    • The E-mail we sent ended up in your spam folder.
    • The E-mail you sent ended up in the buddy committee’s spam folder.
    • Your inbox is full and you are unable to receive new E-mails.
  • When will I find out if I get a group?

For those who have signed up for a buddy group:

The groups are created in the weekend before Into Campus, and you will be contacted directly by your buddies. There are several thousand students who need to be assigned to groups, and the buddies do their best to have the groups ready as quickly as possible.

It takes time to assign all new students to groups, and you should not expect to receive a response until the buddies have finished assigning all students who signed up before the deadline.

For those who have sent an E-mail to the buddy committee to find an available group:

Requests about available groups that are received before the sign-up deadline will not be answered until after the deadline has expired.

You will receive a response as soon as possible, but you should expect that it may take some time before you are contacted by a group with available spots.

  • What is the difference between ordinary and international buddy groups?

International buddy groups are for exchange students, who are attending courses at Kristiania for a semester.

Ordinary buddy groups are for new student who are starting a degree at Kristiania (year unit, two-year unit, Bachelors or Masters).
