Below is a more detailed description of the academic progression throughout the three years of study, as well as the structure of the bachelor’s thesis.

Year 1
In the first semester, students take the courses Legal Method, Contract Law, and Tort Law. These courses provide a foundational understanding and practical training in applying legal methodology to solve legal problems, an introduction to general and special contract law with a focus on the law of sales, and an introduction to the basic principles of tort law, including conditions for liability, bases for responsibility, the calculation of damages, and the position of the injured party.

In the second semester, students take the courses Inheritance and Family Law and Property Law. These courses address the fundamental rules of property law, such as the scope and limitations of property rights, establishment of property, registration and title procedures, servitudes, and acquisition of ownership through prescription. In family and inheritance law, students study the legal rules governing relationships between spouses and cohabitants, as well as the rules of inheritance and succession.

Year 2
In the second year, students take the courses Administrative Law, State law and History of Law, Ex.phil. and Ex.fac, and International Law.

In General Administrative Law, students learn about administrative decisions, fundamental procedural rules, legal safeguards, organisation of public administration, complaint procedures, invalidity, and judicial review.

In Constitutional Law and Legal History, students study the Norwegian Constitution, the functions of the state powers, control mechanisms, rule-of-law principles, and the relationship between national and international law. The legal history component traces the development of legal systems from the Middle Ages to the present day, including canon law, commercial law, natural law, and the internationalisation of law.

Ex.phil. and Ex.fac. in the legal variant introduce students to fundamental questions in philosophy of science, language, logic, argumentation, and legal philosophy.

In International Law, students are introduced to public international law, international human rights, and EEA law, with an emphasis on sources, actors, and principles of international law, as well as state responsibility and the legal position of the individual.

Year 3
In the third year, students take the courses Special Administrative Law, Law of Property Rights and Obligations: Contract law, Law of Property Rights and Obligations: Corporate law, and Law of Property Rights and Obligations: Dynamic law of property and bankruptcy law.

In Special Administrative Law, students gain insight into specific areas of administrative law, particularly welfare law and environmental law.

Law of Property Rights and Obligations: Contract law,, students build on the earlier course in Contract Law and gain a deeper understanding of the rights and obligations of parties in contractual relationships.

In Law of Property Rights and Obligations: Corporate law, students learn about monetary obligations, joint and several liability, recourse, limitation of monetary claims, and default of payment. The company law component covers types of business entities, corporate organs, company assets, transfer of ownership, and dissolution and liquidation.

In Law of Property Rights and Obligations: Dynamic law of property and bankruptcy law, students learn to identify, analyse, and solve legal issues related to conflicts of rights, security interests, and bankruptcy, applying legal methodology. Emphasis is placed on protection of legal rights, priority, acquisition in good faith, creditor attachment, and bankruptcy proceedings.
