General university admissions certification according to the 23/5 rule
Recognition of prior learning

Recommended Prerequisites
Applications based on recognition of prior learning will be individually assessed, and applicants must document that they have the qualifications and competence to complete the program.

For admission to this study program, it is possible to apply for an exemption from the requirement of general university admissions certification, cf. Regulations on Admission to Higher Education §3-6. The exemption applies to applicants who meet specific academic requirements and can document special academic abilities. Documentation and assessment of academic abilities occur through the program's admission process.

In addition to the application, an entrance examination must be conducted. Information about the entrance examination is published on Kristiania University's website. Applicants are ranked based on the results achieved in the entrance examination. See Regulations on Admission to Higher Education[1] and Regulations on Admission, Studies, Degrees, and Examinations at Kristiania University[2] for more information on admission.

Applicants choose their specialization at the time of application, and the design and content of the entrance examination will depend on which specialization(s) are applied for.

For admission to the specialization in Songwriting and Production, entrance examinations are held where applicants have the opportunity to demonstrate motivation as well as artistic talent and uniqueness within one or more of the disciplines in the field of songwriting and production.

For admission to the specialization in Music Engineering and Production, entrance examinations are held where applicants have the opportunity to demonstrate motivation and artistic and auditory understanding of the field.

For admission to the specialization in Music Performance, entrance examinations are held where the applicant's skill on their main instrument and their creative and artistic expression are emphasized.

For admission to the specialization in Songwriting and Production, it is recommended that applicants have a basic understanding of music theoretical concepts and basic terminology within the disciplines of songwriting and production.

For admission to the specialization in Music Engineering and Production, it is recommended that applicants have knowledge, competence, and skills at least at the level of grade 3 from upper secondary school (general university admissions certification) in the subjects of mathematics, natural sciences, and English.

Furthermore, it is advantageous if applicants have experience in music and/or sound work, whether as a musician, songwriter, producer, or technician. However, technical prerequisites or skills are not required.

For admission to the specialization in Music Performance, applicants should have experience in ensemble playing in a band or equivalent, as well as basic theory and ear training skills.
