Pedagogical platform and implementation of teaching
Bachelor in Marketing and Business Development is designed so that the combination of courses and study activities leads students towards the intended learning outcomes described in Chapter 2 of this program description.

The individual courses are assembled to provide breadth within knowledge, skills, and general competence that reflect professional practice. Some courses are more oriented towards knowledge outcomes, others towards developing specific skills, while some integrate several skills through the connection between theory and practice. This is reflected in the teaching.

The teaching, learning, and assessment methods in each course are chosen to ensure coherence between the intended learning outcomes, the teaching formats used, and the examination at the end of the course.

The methodological choices also reflect the contribution of each course to the program as a whole. Students therefore encounter a varied set of learning activities throughout their studies, a variation that in total mirrors the professional field the students are being educated for.

The Bachelor in Marketing and Business Development emphasizes building broad competence within the discipline and developing students’ ability to work independently. Teaching aims to comment on, illustrate, and elaborate on material from the curriculum, as well as to provide additional content not available in printed form.

As with all higher education, Kristiania University College requires students to take responsibility for their own independent learning. The university’s role is to facilitate and support student learning through effective learning design. At the same time, it is emphasized that instructors can only provide input and structure; learning ultimately takes place within each student as a result of their own effort. Students should therefore expect a significant amount of independent work in connection with their studies.

The main teaching, learning, and assessment activities students encounter in the Bachelor in Marketing and Business Development are described below:

For students who need guidance beyond scheduled teaching, the university provides academic resources, including administrative staff, librarians, digital learning resources (e.g. online videos), and student advisors. These are available to students when needed.

In addition to literature and support with literature searches, the library also offers training in academic writing.

During the program, specific academic events are organized where guest lecturers, external organizations, and business partners may participate. Projects may be initiated by course leaders and/or students and are supported by administrative resources. For more detailed information, please refer to the individual course descriptions.

Examinations and assessment methods
Assessment refers to the evaluation of submitted or presented work against a set of criteria defined by the intended learning outcomes for the course. Assessments may be carried out by peers, instructors, or examiners, who may also provide feedback, either as formative guidance or as a grade (examination).

At Kristiania University College, we distinguish between assessment as learning, assessment for learning, and assessment of learning. While the form of assessment may be the same, the purpose varies.

Assessment as learning (peer evaluation) and assessment for learning (feedback from instructors) are intended to shape the learning process and help students achieve the best possible results. This type of assessment is considered part of the teaching activities, as described in Chapter 4.1 above.

Assessment of learning is the final evaluation of actual learning outcomes, i.e. the examination. At Kristiania, an examination is defined as “a final assignment within a course or a defined part of a course.” Submitted or presented work is graded by examiners, and the result is recorded on the diploma.

In the Bachelor in Marketing and Business Development, students will encounter the following examination formats:

Home examination
Portfolio examination
Bachelor thesis

In some courses, mandatory activities are required. A mandatory activity is a requirement that must be approved before students are allowed to sit for the exam. This may include submission of one or more assignments (coursework requirements) and/or participation in defined activities, lectures, or mandatory practice.

Mandatory activities are assessed as Approved/Not approved. The right to sit for an exam in a course with mandatory activities requires that these activities are approved. Otherwise, the student loses the right to take the exam until the requirement(s) have been approved.
