has knowledge of exercise, health counselling, motivational communication, nutrition/diet, and health from societal, preventive, and therapeutic perspectives.
has knowledge of how exercise and nutrition/diet can be adapted to meet the needs of individuals and groups with different requirements.
has knowledge of the relationship between exercise, nutrition, and health, and how a personal trainer can use counselling and motivational dialogue to encourage healthy behaviours and behavioural change.
is familiar with research and academic literature relevant to how exercise and nutrition/diet can prevent lifestyle-related diseases.
can update and expand their knowledge about the importance of exercise and nutrition, and understands how public health authorities work strategically to implement these fields for the benefit of the Norwegian population’s health.

Skills
The candidate…

can apply professional knowledge of exercise and nutrition to tailor training and dietary advice for individuals and groups under their supervision.
can work evidence-based and critically reflect on their own professional practice, adjusting it when guided.
can find, assess, and refer to relevant information and literature on exercise and nutrition for the health and well-being of individuals and groups.
can use methods to assess physical fitness and general health, and based on this, develop individualised and goal-oriented exercise and nutrition plans.
can motivate and guide individuals and groups to make lifestyle changes that promote health.

General Competence
The candidate…

has knowledge of ethical and professional dilemmas that may arise in personal guidance and training of individuals or groups, and approaches all clients with empathy, understanding, and respect.
can plan and implement relevant projects within nutrition and exercise, both independently and as part of a team, in accordance with ethical standards and guidelines.
can present, instruct, and communicate the importance of exercise and nutrition for health to both individuals and larger groups, in written, oral, and digital formats.
can contribute to best practices as a personal trainer through the exchange of ideas and experiences, both within the field and across disciplines.
can identify and further develop their own knowledge and skills to ensure lifelong learning.
