Society today has undergone significant changes in recent years. A primary driver of these developments is information technology. New methods for utilising technology in information processing have influenced and transformed the way we work, communicate, study, inform, analyse, evaluate and, simply put, live. It is possible that a few professions still remain largely unaffected by the rapid advancements in information technology, but such cases are rare.

The purpose of this one-year programme is to provide a thorough introduction to information technology. This includes a deep understanding of how computers operate, particularly when connected in networks. The programme will also highlight potential risks associated with the development and use of information technology, as well as methods for managing these risks.

The programme gives students an introduction to various forms of programming, enabling them to develop tailored solutions by writing software code. Furthermore, students will acquire skills in developing dynamic web pages and in storing data efficiently through database management, which will also be a central part of the curriculum.

IT projects are often complex and challenging, and they are rarely carried out by individuals alone. Therefore, the programme emphasises collaboration skills and provides students with the opportunity to practise developing solutions together with others. The programme places particular focus on practical skills and gives students experience with tools, languages, and methods that are relevant to professional practice.

This one-year programme is highly valuable for students who wish to build upon their existing education to gain competence in information technology. It is also very relevant for those who are considering further studies within the field. Moreover, the programme may serve as a foundation for a range of bachelor’s programmes offered at Kristiania University of Applied Sciences.

The one-year programme may count as a completed first year of further bachelor’s studies at Kristiania University of Applied Sciences. Some of these bachelor’s programmes require prior knowledge in mathematics equivalent to R1 or S1+S2, in addition to, or as part of, general university admissions certification. Please refer to Kristianias website for more information on such further study opportunities.
