  • Project period: 2024 - 2025
  • Category: Shared Cost Project

Description

This project investigates whether, and if so how, platform companies’ algorithmic editorial layers limit the diversity of news that Norwegians are exposed to on social media. Through content analyses of what 22 Norwegian editorial media publish in their own online newspapers and on social media, interviews with 15–20 social media editors, as well as observation in two newsrooms, the project will shed light on both the diversity of what is actually published and the experiences newsrooms have with the platforms’ moderation algorithms. The project’s overarching research question is: What are the consequences of platform companies’ dominance in the Norwegian media market for the diversity of news that Norwegians are exposed to?
