Key Information

About this research group

What unites us as members of this group is our shared background as performing artists, performing arts educators, and researchers. We are interested in exploring how artistic practice and pedagogical experience can inform academic research in the performing arts. The group focuses on research related to teaching and artistic processes and practices within performing arts—more specifically in dance and musical theatre, and in interdisciplinary contexts. Our research is rooted in qualitative and mixed methods approaches, including phenomenology, a/r/tography, action research, and collaborative teaching. We place particular emphasis on themes such as embodied learning, student-centered learning, attention focus, and motor learning.

The group’s goals are to:

  • Promote academic dialogue and knowledge exchange across research traditions and disciplines
  • Share experiences of researching teaching and learning in higher performing arts education
  • Contribute to increased knowledge about learning, processes, and practices in dance and musical theatre
