Scholarships, financing and types of agreement

The scholarships you receive depend on the agreement Kristiania has with your exchange institution.

Erasmus Agreements (Two-way)

  • You pay the standard tuition fee to Kristiania, not to the partner institution.
  • You receive an Erasmus+ grant of approximately €400-500 per month, depending on whether your host country is classified as a high-cost or low-cost destination.
  • The Erasmus+ grant is awarded and administered by Kristiania. You will receive a grant agreement before your exchange period and do not need to submit a separate application.
  • You are eligible for standard student support and travel grants from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen).
  • Please note that part of the Erasmus+ grant must be repaid if you terminate your studies abroad earlier than originally planned.

Additional Benefits

  • If you fail an examination or withdraw from your exchange programme, Kristiania offers re-sit examinations and, where relevant, replacement modules at a reduced fee. The exchange semester is included within Kristiania's tuition fee cap.
  • Reciprocal exchange agreements generally involve fewer students attending the same partner institution, providing greater opportunities to engage with local and international students.

Other Mutual Agreements (Two-way)

  • You receive the same benefits outlined above, except for the Erasmus+ grant.
  • In recent years, Kristiania has actively developed partnerships with the so-called Panorama Countries. This focus reflects growing interest among both academic staff and students, as well as the Norwegian Government's Panorama Strategy.Students undertaking exchange placements in Panorama Countries may be eligible for an additional recruitment grant through Lånekassen. Eligible Panorama Countries include:Brazil, India, China, Japan, South Africa, South Korea.

Study Abroad Agreements (One-Way)

  • You pay tuition fees directly to the host institution rather than to Kristiania.
  • Tuition fees typically range from NOK 50,000 to NOK 120,000.
  • You remain eligible for standard student support and travel grants from Lånekassen.

Please note that the host institution is responsible for monitoring your academic progress. Tuition fees associated with non-reciprocal agreements are often significantly higher than those at Kristiania, and living costs may also be considerably greater.

Students on one-way agreements are not eligible for Erasmus+ grants, which are reserved for Erasmus+ reciprocal agreements.

As Kristiania does not receive tuition fees from one-way study abroad arrangements, it does not provide discounted replacement modules or arrange re-sit examinations for failed courses completed abroad. Expenses associated with a one-way study abroad period are not included within Kristiania's tuition fee cap.

Support for Language Courses

If you're studying in a language other than English, Swedish, or Danish, you can also receive support for language courses. Learn more on Lånekassen's website.

Note that you can study EU languages for free at the EU Academy website, which is specially for students going abroad to EU countries.
