The course gives you a basic introduction to the structure and function of the human body's nervous system, musculoskeletal system and circulatory system and the upper extremity anatomy and biomechanical principles. In addition, the course deals with the body's mechanisms for temperature regulation. The course consists of the following topics:

The nervous system

the development of the nervous system
the overall structure and function of the nervous system
the nerve cells' structure and guidance of the action potential
synapses in the nervous system
maturation of the brain
the development of the central nervous system
the structure and function of the autonomic and peripheral nervous system

The senses

common features of the sensory system
the different senses (bodily senses, pain, smell, taste, hearing, balance and vision)
processing of sensory impressions by the nervous system

Muscle physiology

classification and characteristics of the different types of muscle tissue
skeletal muscle structure and behavior with special focus on excitation / contraction coupling
mechanical properties of skeletal muscles
the neuromuscular junction

The circulatory system

tasks of the circulatory system
structure of the circulatory system
functions of the circulatory system with special focus on the regulation of blood pressure

Musculoskeletal anatomy (upper extremities)

anatomical terminology of the upper extremities
bones and joints of the upper extremities
origin, insertion, function and blood and nerve supply to the major muscles of the upper extremities
