Development of International Collaborative Projects

An effective method for developing collaboration is to establish a joint project related to education or research. Here you will find information on how to get started, apply for funding, and implement a project.

1. How to get started

Find potential international collaboration partners

  • Which academic environments are leading in your field? Create a plan to get in touch, possibly through other contacts.
  • Map existing contacts with international academic environments in your field or research group. Consider opportunities to establish a concrete project collaboration in research or education.
  • Attend international conferences and meeting places: participate with a presentation/abstract and plan in advance who you want to contact. Think about possible project ideas.
  • Participate in an EU-funded COST network within your field. Check if such a network is established and apply for participation.

2. Develop an application for external funding

If you are considering developing an application for external funding for research or international educational collaboration, remember to inform the Department of Research Administration and Internationalisation as early as possible.

For international research collaboration:

For international educational collaboration:

  • Contact your international advisor.
  • You will receive advice and arrange further follow-up, based on the department's workflow for application follow-up of educational collaboration.
  • Inform the leadership in your School about your application and project plans.
  • Map funding opportunities in dialogue with the advisor. See also the overview of funding opportunities.
  • The international advisor provides support in project development. The project economist in FAINT supports budgeting. Ensure that the collaborative project is well anchored with the international partner institution and that the institution understands what they are expected to contribute.
  • The application must be anchored in your School, which approves the budget and contributions in the project. Obtain the correct signatures with support from the international advisor well in advance of the application deadline.
  • Submit the application well in advance of the deadline.

3. Establish and implement an externally funded project

The Department of Research Administration and Internationalisation has workflows for project follow-up. We distinguish between research projects and educational projects.

Workflows for implementing research projects are described here.

International educational collaboration is followed up by the international team:

  • The international advisor supports the signing of contracts with the funder and collaboration agreements with partners, and has a start-up meeting with the project leader. The workflow is described here.
  • The project economist reports the use of funds in the project to the project leader and assists in reporting to the funder.
  • Student mobility included in international educational collaboration is handled by the International Team as regular exchanges. Students apply by regular deadlines.
  • The project leader is responsible for the implementation and reporting of all parts of the project in accordance with the project description and contract with the funder. Schools have an overarching responsibility for follow-up.

5. Funding opportunities for international collaborative projects

International educational collaborations

Here you will find an overview of relevant funding opportunities within, among others, Erasmus+ and HK-Dir, which Kristiania already has experience with, including deadlines and budget frameworks. These programmes are good starting points for developing international educational collaborations. In the next round, you can build on this and apply for funding that requires a greater degree of complexity.

  • Global Mobility (Erasmus+). Opportunity to send students to or from third countries not associated with the Erasmus programme. Application deadline in February. Global Mobility | HK-Dir
  • Cooperation Partnerships (Erasmus+). Supports educational collaboration between at least three partners from three of the Erasmus countries. Application deadline in March. Cooperation Partnerships | HK-Dir
  • Application Support PES. Support for developing new educational collaborations within Erasmus. Ongoing application deadline. PES | HK-Dir
  • UTFORSK. Supports educational collaboration between Norway and Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, China, South Africa, South Korea, and the USA. Application deadline March/April. Utforsk | HK-Dir
