Kristiania University College and the Queer Research Group have set the date for next year’s Queer Symposium, which will take place on 2 June 2026 at Kristiania’s campus in Oslo.

This year’s event, also held in early June, gathered over 40 researchers working on queer topics from across the country. Throughout the day, participants presented planned, ongoing, and completed research projects.

“We’re seeing important queer research being conducted across a wide range of fields – from health and education to communication, law, and beyond. We want to continue highlighting this work and discussing the challenges queer research faces. It’s also crucial that we come together to support each other and encourage collaboration in a turbulent world where queer researchers and queer research are under attack,” says Jon Martin Larsen, coordinator of the Queer Research Group, as well as university lecturer and PhD fellow at Kristiania.

Next year’s symposium will feature researcher Kevin Guyan as keynote speaker and workshop leader. Guyan is the author of Queer Data and Rainbow Trap, two books addressing the use, value, and biases in the collection of data and statistics about queer lives.

“I also hope we’ll see even more research that explores how we live our queer lives today – both in Norway and globally – because there are major cracks in welfare systems and public services, and many political tensions that directly affect queer people,” says Larsen.

A call for presentations will be announced early next year. The Queer Research Group currently has over 80 members from across Norway and meets regularly online, in addition to the annual in-person symposium.
