Our Research
This network explores the role of foundations in innovation, governance, asset management, and philanthropic distribution. It aims to generate in-depth knowledge and expertise that can enhance foundations’ capacity to contribute meaningfully to social and economic transformation.
Our focus areas include:
• The role of foundations as catalysts for innovation and technological development
• Governance and leadership capabilities in foundations (Corporate Governance)
• How foundations can maximize returns while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability and ethical investment
• Best practices in financial management tailored to the unique needs of foundations
• The design and follow-up of grant-making practices
Expected Contributions:
• Position Kristiania University College as a center for academic research on foundations
• Establish a national and international network of scholars, foundations, and policymakers focused on strengthening the societal role of foundations
• Develop research-based insights to inform the design of effective regulatory and policy frameworks for the foundation sector
The Foundations and Society Research Network contributes to research-based teaching and knowledge development across relevant academic disciplines, offering instruction at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. The group’s members publish in academic journals and participate actively in public dissemination through seminars and societal debate—often in collaboration with the Norwegian Association of Foundations.
