Background

Roy Aulie Jacobsen is a doctoral research fellow in political communication at Kristiania University College. His research examines how political leaders and governments use social media platforms during crises and election campaigns, with a particular focus on Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, and other platformized environments. He has more than a decade of studies and research experience across history, political science, sociology, and communication, which provides a broad theoretical and methodological foundation. He works interdisciplinarity, drawing on these fields to understand how political messages travel online, how people respond to them, and what this may suggest for democratic trust and public debate.

His previous experience includes working as a researcher at Telemark Research Institute, focusing on cultural policy, communication, and quantitative methods. He has also held several research assistant positions at the Department of Media and Communication (UiO), the Department of Political Science (UiO), the Department of Musicology (UiO), and the Institute for Social Research. His recent projects analyze viral political posts and crisis communication during the COVID-19 pandemic, combining manual content analysis with quantitative models of social media engagement.
