Background
Fredrik Eive Refsli is Associate Professor of graphic design and holds a master’s degree in visual communication from Oslo National Academy of the Arts. He is currently exploring design’s political dimension, societal impact and the positionality of the designer through his research and teaching in the courses “Design and Society” and “The Designer’s Position” on Master of Design as well as “Social Responsibility for Graphic Designers” and “Graphic Design Criticism” on Bachelor of Graphic Design. He also supervises master and bachelor projects with similar themes, as well as themes related to typography, book design, visual identity and strategic design.
Refsli has had leading roles in the development of study programs in design on both Bachelor’s and Master’s level, as well as served as Head of Program at Bachelor of Graphic Design for two periods. He has held numerous committee positions at Kristiania, including serving on the university’s council assembly, the independent appeals committee, the project group for developing criteria for pedagogical merit assessment, the local educational committee and project groups for developing Kristiania’s plans of action for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) on both departmental and university level.
Refsli has extensive experience as an independent designer, as well as a designer and consultant in the design agencies Blæst and ANTI. His work has won awards in national and international design competitions, both in teams and individually.
In addition to his practice as a designer and educator, Refsli served for several years as Sustainability Manager at Hove Festival, Norway’s largest music festival located in Raet National Park. There, he led the festival’s effort to become certified as an EcoLighthouse® in close collaboration with the Norwegian Nature Inspectorate.
