Background
Stephan Hamberg is an associate professor at the Department of Communication and serves as the dean of the School of Doctoral Studies. Hamberg holds a PhD in political science from the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. In his dissertation titled "Electoral Violence in New Democracies: Institutionalizing Peaceful Elections," Hamberg demonstrates that organizing elections through politically independent institutions reduces the risk of violent elections. Hamberg worked as a researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo from 2009 to 2014. From 2016 to 2021, he served as head of the section at the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT). In this role, he led NOKUT's efforts in evaluating higher education in Norway. Before joining Kristiania, he led the Research Unit at the Norwegian Parliament.
